We all know the importance of good landing pages in our efforts to improve SEO. However, sometimes we go overboard with content, call-to-actions (CTAs) and ugly/obvious keyword stuffing. Never again! At least, that's our hope after you read this article.
Remember: a landing page is one page designed to create a very specific conversion path. For example, booking a specific vacation home, selling specific arrival dates or entering a vacation giveaway. So don't go crazy! Use these 5 tips towards improving your next one:
1: Keep it simple
Yes, we refuse to use the KISS acronym because it's been so overdone, but the concept still applies here. Remember: you want to convert a very specific CTA, so leave out anything that doesn't directly assist that conversion path. Which leads us to the next tip.
2: The C in CTA is for consistency
Well, that's not true, but it makes the point: Instead of introducing more than one CTA on your page, concentrate on really selling the heck out of that recently-discounted property or the benefits of why someone should join your mailing list. Everything in your landing page -- from the images to the copy -- should support whatever it is you're promoting.
3: Make them pay attention
People are easily distracted and lose attention quickly, so make sure the only obvious action they can take from your landing page is your main CTA. The more focused and clear your message is, the higher your conversion rates will be.
4. Mobile is king
So keep the amount of copy down and ensure those images or videos are optimized. With the majority of web visitors using smartphones, the more succinct your presentation is the better. If you plan on using video on your landing page, ensure it doesn't auto-load on mobile.
5. Play with colors
A big, orange button is the best for CTA, right? Not necessarily. It's more about contrast. Instead of choosing a color and style that blends in with your website design, try something entirely different.
